As a pioneer in the industry, we manufacture Type 4 high-pressure tanks, which are among the most advanced and efficient hydrogen storage technologies. In addition, our company is also a leader in the development of hydrogen fuel storage and distribution systems.
Our proven Type 4 technology is characterized by modularity and flexibility, allowing hydrogen storage systems to be adapted to individual circumstances and customer requirements. The high-strength carbon fiber construction ensures high fatigue resistance whilst reducing shocks, damage and fatigue. In addition, research is continuously being conducted into lighter and safer material combinations to reduce vehicle mass and optimize handling.

Hydrogen Type 4 cylinders – durable & lightweight
At Hexagon Purus, we have made groundbreaking progress, particularly in the development of cylinders and systems for hydrogen distribution at pressures of 250, 300, 380, 500 and 635 bar.
A central success factor of our company comes from the focus on reducing the weight of hydrogen containers. Hydrogen has traditionally been transported using steel tube trailers with type 1 steel cylinders. Using Type 4 cylinder technology, we can make larger modules that store hydrogen at much higher pressure, with less weight, all of which increases the storage capacity. Type 4 cylinders weigh around 75% less than conventional type 1 steel tanks. Our innovative lightweight design makes it possible to transport three times the amount of hydrogen on a truck compared to steel tube trailer. To meet the demand for efficient hydrogen transportation, we are developing special systems that enable the transport of 1,400 to 1,500 kilograms of compressed hydrogen at pressures of 500 and 635 bar. The reduction in weight not only leads to lower operating costs, but also enables increased efficiency as more hydrogen can be transported with a single truck.
The total cost of ownership for a Type 4 module is superior to that of a steel tube trailer, almost regardless of consumption and travel distance. Triple capacity can mean running one trip instead of three. Lower OpEx more than offsets the higher CapEx for our modules compared to steel-based modules. For this reason, industrial gas companies are now increasingly shifting to Type 4 based modules and emerging green hydrogen players are starting with Type 4 technology from the get go.
