As part of our ongoing growth, we are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our production support team in our new Mesquite, TX automotive manufacturing facility. This role is crucial in ensuring that our mechanical systems function seamlessly in production, while serving as the key liaison between the manufacturing site and the broader engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Support: Provide on-site support for mechanical issues that arise during the production of electric semi trucks. Quickly diagnose and resolve problems to keep production on schedule.
- Liaison Role: Act as the primary point of contact between the production team and the central mechanical engineering department. Communicate mechanical challenges, propose solutions, and ensure feedback is relayed effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Analyze mechanical systems, including chassis, suspension, cooling systems, and other structural components, to identify and rectify issues. Implement solutions to prevent recurring problems.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of mechanical issues, solutions, and any modifications. Ensure that all changes are documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Process Improvement: Identify and propose improvements to mechanical processes within the production environment. Collaborate with the engineering team to enhance production efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Independent Operations: Operate independently at a production site separate from the main engineering team. Demonstrate strong self-management skills to handle responsibilities with minimal oversight.
- Training and Support: Provide training and guidance to production staff on mechanical systems, ensuring they are equipped to handle routine issues and understand proper procedures.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the quality assurance team to ensure that all mechanical systems meet the company's rigorous quality standards. Conduct inspections and tests as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in production support, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Experience in the automotive industry, especially with heavy-duty trucks or electric vehicles, is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems related to electric vehicles, including powertrain, suspension, and structural components.
- Proficient in using CAD software and understanding technical drawings and mechanical schematics.
- Experience with tools and techniques for diagnosing mechanical issues in a production environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving mechanical issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, self-driven, and capable of managing time effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for mechanical engineering in automotive or heavy-duty truck environments.
- Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or relevant technical certifications are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a remote or semi-autonomous role.
- Previous experience as a liaison between production and engineering teams.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance related to vehicle safety and mechanical systems.
