Automotive Functional Safety Engineer

The Function Safety Engineer will be responsible for overseeing technical aspects of the product development lifecycle for safety-critical heavy-duty vehicle systems. The ideal candidate should possess experience in functional safety standards, specifically ISO 26262, at both the supplier and OEM levels.

Job Summary

Hexagon Purus is seeking to hire an AutomotiveFunctional Safety Engineer. The Function Safety Engineer will be responsible for overseeing technical aspects of the product development lifecycle for safety-critical heavy-duty vehicle systems. The ideal candidate should possess experience in functional safety standards, specifically ISO 26262, at both the supplier and OEM levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessments for electric vehicle systems, including electrical, electronic, and software components.
  • Develop safety work items such as concepts, safety plans, and safety requirements based on industry standards and regulations (such as ISO 26262).
  • Perform system level analysis for safety.
  • Decompose and allocate ASILs
  • Collaborate with design engineers and software developers to integrate safety requirements into the EV system architecture and design.
  • Support the development of safety-critical software and hardware components by providing safety guidance and conducting safety analyses.
  • Define safety verification and validation activities, including test plans and procedures, to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Perform safety analyses, such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), to identify potential failure modes and their impact on the system.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of safety-related issues and facilitate the necessary safety assessments.
  • Participate in safety audits and assessments to validate the implementation of safety measures and compliance with safety standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in EV safety standards and regulations and provide recommendations for improvements to enhance safety practices and procedures.
  • Document and maintain safety-related documentation, including safety cases, safety plans, and safety reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in functional safety or similar
  • Strong understanding of functional safety concepts, standards, and regulations, such as ISO 26262.
  • Knowledge of ASIL decomposition
  • Experience in conducting hazard and risk assessments for complex systems, preferably in the automotive or electric vehicle industry.
  • Proficiency in safety analysis techniques, such as FMEA, FTA, and safety requirements decomposition.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical software development processes and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of relevant automotive communication protocols and network architectures (e.g., CAN, LIN).
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams and coordinating safety activities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and assess complex technical scenarios.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at various levels and present safety-related information clearly.
  • Certification in functional safety (e.g., CFSE, TUV, etc.) is a plus, with an emphasis on heavy electric vehicle applications.
